Metallica Joins Forces with Dr. Martens for Iconic New Footwear Collection
Heavy metal titans Metallica have partnered with the legendary British brand Dr. Martens to launch an exclusive two-part footwear collection. Released today, Thursday 29 January 2026, the collaboration celebrates the band’s monumental 1980s legacy while honouring their global community of fans.
The first release features the classic 1460 boot and 1461 shoe, adorned with striking graphics from two of Metallica’s most historic world tours: the 1986 “Damage Inc.” tour and the 1989 “Damaged Justice” tour. These designs, created by long-time artistic collaborator Pushead, bring the band’s thrash metal heritage to the streets in durable leather form.
Honouring the “5th Member”
The second part of the collection offers a more minimalist, sleek aesthetic. This version reimagines the 1460 boot in a black-on-black colourway, drawing inspiration from 1991’s The Black Album. Exclusive to Metallica’s official store, this pair features an embossed logo on the ankle and the phrase “5th Member” on the shoelaces—a dedicated nod to the fans the band considers an integral part of their line-up.
In a statement on the Dr. Martens website, the brand praised the band’s longevity:
“Formed in 1981, Metallica are still releasing albums that stand as cultural landmarks. Our new collection is a testament to the enduring impact their music has had on a global legion of fans.”
A Legacy of Self-Expression
Since the first pair of Dr. Martens rolled off the production line in April 1960, the brand has transformed from a humble worker’s boot into a global symbol of subversion and attitude. Originally worn by postmen and police officers, “DMs” quickly became the uniform for musicians and youth tribes who value self-expression.
This collaboration unites two cultural giants that share a reputation for durability, empowerment, and a refusal to follow the status quo. Whether you are in the front row of a stadium or walking the city streets, these boots represent a flag of attitude for those who feel truly alive.
The “Made in England” range continues to be manufactured in the original Wollaston factory in Northamptonshire, where a close-knit team uses traditional shoe-making techniques perfected over six decades.
